Biography edit · view history
Johannes Brahms (7 May 1833 – 3 April 1897) was a German composer. Although formally belonging to the Romantic era, Brahms' work also had traditionalist and neo-classical tendencies. He was a staunch defender of absolute music as opposed to programme works, and was deeply influenced by Beethoven's legacy. Many of his shorter works have achieved widespread popularity; his larger compositions gained critical acclaim by many leading musicians.
