Havok was formed in 1998 as an offshoot of an academic project being done in Trinity College Dublin. The original company name was Telekinesys Research Ltd - Havok was created soon after. Initially, Havok worked on physics simulation technology and brought it to the market as a middleware product called Havok Physics. Havok also became the physics behind the Reactor plugin for 3D Studio Max, and added products for Animation, AI, Cloth Destruction and Scripting.
