John Schappert is currently with the social games developer Zynga. Previously he was Chief Operating Officer at Electronic Arts, Inc. until April 2011. Since June 2007, John Schappert was Executive Vice President of two groups at Electronic Arts: Central Development Services and Global Publishing. He didn't hold this position for long, as in August of the same year he became Corporate VP of LIVE, software and services at Microsoft. In 2009 he returned to Electronic Arts to replace COO John Pleasants who was hired away by Microsoft.

Schappert first joined Electronic Arts as a software engineer in 1991. He formed Tiburon Entertainment just three years later, where he helped develop games in the EA Sports line that included the Madden NFL and National Hockey League franchises. Tiburon was acquired by EA in 1998.

In 2002 Schappert moved on to the EA Burnaby Studio in British Columbia, where he oversaw the FIFA Soccer, NHL Hockey, and Need for Speed franchises, among others.
