Overview edit · view history

Venom Games was founded from the core team from Rage Games' Newcastle Studio (including Peter Johnson). After creating titles for Rage such as Rocky (Xbox, PS2) and Expendable (PC/PlayStation) the company, along with Juice Games and Swordfish Studios, became one of a few studios to rise up again from Rage's ashes with the aim of keeping a talented team together.

Their reputation helped secure the funding needed through the transition period from a six-man team in a rented room through to securing their first contract. The studio's first title was Rocky: Legends (September 2004) for Ubisoft. In the same month Venom Games was acquired by Take-Two Interactive, Inc..

The company relocated to new offices in 2005 and increased its team size with 60%. The acquisition also made them focus on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. They were asked to port BioShock to the PS3, but the coders did not consider it possible. They ported another game instead. July 2006 saw the release of their Xbox 360 version of Prey.

The company's last game was Don King Presents: Prizefighter for the Xbox 360. It was released in June 2008 and in early July of the same year website CVG (Computer and Videogames) discovered that the studio was set to close down at the end of the month. At the time the studio was finishing the Wii and DS versions of the title.
