49Games GmbH was established in early 2004 by former VCC Entertainment members Peter Cukierski, Florian Knappe, Thomas Mahlke, Dierk Ohlerich and newcomer Jan-Hendrik Ohl, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.

The company specializes in Winter sports simulations, now producing the yearly RTL Skispringen series and Ski Alpin Racing, as well as the official game of the XX Winter Olympic Games: Torino 2006.

In September 2011, the company was acquired by Bigpoint GmbH. Bigpoint announced that 49Games will develop browser games in the future.
